Kandasamy, born in Nidamanagalm,thanjavur District, had his early college education in Government College,Kumbakonam before joining Annamalai University to earn a degree in Civil Engineering in 1960.   He joined PWD in 1960 and left to continue his education in Guindy Engineering college  and earned a M.Sc in Structural Engineering.   He was appointed Assistant Engineer in PWD through direct recruitment by Madras Public Service Commission.   After some years with the PWD he moved to Tamilnadu Water Supply and Sewerage Board and retired as Chief Engineer.   He is proud, as an engineer with PWD and TWAB, to have developed the regions of Vellore, Madurai, Trichy, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari.   He was also on deputation to Iraq as a Project Engineer for three years.
